Each stretch has its own personality and offers unique landscapes and experiences. Each section can be completed independently, allowing the route to be adapted to each cyclist’s available time, fitness level, and desire for discovery. Sector 1 Cardó-Llaberia 0 km + 0 m Route Disused railway lines and testing gravel trails. Types of surface 70% Paved / 30% Offroad A rugged and remote area combining mountain trails that wind through forests and spectacular panoramas. A demanding taster that will test rider and equipment. Experience the natural solitude of the Cardo mountain range together with newly surfaced “Vias Verdes” Sector 2 Ribera d’Ebre 0 km + 0 m Route Trails through Olive groves and natural Mediterranean pine forests. Types of surface 45% Paved / 55% Offroad Follow the flood plain of the Ebro where the Spains greatest river has been harnessed to provide power, irrigation and leisure activities. The route climbs onto six plateaus lining the Sierra de Cavalls and Sierra de Pandols, it is an area of contrasts from cultivated land to wild landscapes. Sector 3 Terra Alta 0 km + 0 m Route Fast and flowing gravel roads through wind farms, vineyards and pine forests. Types of surface 18% Paved / 82% Gravel The Terra Alta is a large fertile plateau rising to 500m. It’s soil and cooler climate are ideal for viniculture. It’s elevation provides views to the Els Ports mountains to the south and Pyrenees to the north. Although the route passes medieval villages and churches, this is a little known area where peace and quiet is assured. Sector 4 Los Ports 0 km + 0 m Route High mountain trails with long steep climbs and rough tracks. Types of surface 62% Paved / 38% Stony tracks The limestone massif of Los Ports forms the backbone of the route. Rising nearly 1,500m above sea level the route traverses the length of the mountain range, with long sections above 1,000m including the legendary climb to the high point of Mont Caro. This is a section requiring resilience and care as the weather can be volatile. Sector 5 Matarranya 0 km + 0 m Route Fast gravel tracks and quiet lanes. Types of surface 30% Paved / 70% Gravel The trail follows the valleys of 2 significant tributaries of the lower Ebro, the Rio Matarranya and Rio Algars. This is an unspoilt landscape where farming activities have taken place over millenia. We pass through several villages offering food and drink together with historic monuments. The trail crosses the rivers several times and care needs to be taken following heavy rain as some crossings can be deep and fast flowing. Sector 6 Tinença de Benifassà 0 km + 0 m Route Steep climbs on rough mountain trails. Types of surface 34% Paved / 66% Stony tracks A beautiful peaceful landscape with demanding trails and rewarding panoramas. The trail cuts through deep gorges and forested mountainsides which are punctuated by historic villages, some with less than 10 residents. Although drinking water is common in village fonts, it is important not to rely on food being readily available so carry enough to sustain you. Sector 7 Montsià 0 km + 0 m Route Fast gravel trails and country lanes through endless olive groves with short steep climbs. Types of surface 75% Paved / 25% Unpaved The southern gateway to the Terres de l’Ebre, Montsia is where the mountains meet the sea. Ancient olive trees and modern farming combine in a low lying landscape descending gently towards the Ebro Delta. A unique area and respite from the climbing. Sector 8 Delta de l’Ebre 0 km + 0 m Route Flat gravel roads and paths, easy riding. Types of surface 50% Paved / 50% Gravel A spectacular contrast to the rest of the route, the Ebro Delta is paradise for nature lovers. It’s lagoons are home to a huge variety of bird life including flamingos, ibis and stork. The trail ends with a sandy section highlighting the rice cultivation and mussel farming which gives this area it’s reputation for culinary excellence.
